Top 40
Dua Lipa is currently #1 with "Levitating," but she'll be unseated by Sunday. Doja Cat will take the top spot this week with "Kiss Me More." However, don't expect her to stay there for long. Lil Nas X is quickly gaining on her with "MONTERO," also known as "Call Me By Your Name." I expect Doja Cat to get this week, but next week her song could start to be taken out of power rotation by many radio stations, as Lil Nas X has far higher positive ratings among listeners. (Lil Nas X has 70.7% positive, while Doja Cat has 62.8%. Lil Nas X is #1 in callouts. Doja Cat is #19.) By next Sunday, Lil Nas X should overtake Doja Cat to claim the top spot on the charts. He'll officially be #1 on the chart published Monday, July 11th. However, his stay at the top will be short, as "Good 4 U" (which they want me to "stylize" by typing everything in lowercase letters for some strange reason, but I refuse to comply with this poor mechanics), by Olivia Rodrigo is quickly gaining on Lil Nas X. Lil Nas X is gaining about 1,100 spins a week. Rodrigo is gaining roughly 3,000, closing a gap of roughly 1,800 spins. She'll be on top of him by the 18th, easily. She's going to be #4 this week, right behind the falling Dua Lipa song "Levitating," with Doja Cat and Lil Nas X claiming the top two spots, respectively.
#5 will be Ariana Grande's "POV," which she also stylizes as "pov" for some stupid reason. It's not cute to use incorrect mechanics. Her song is on the way down after peaking at #3. #6 will be Justin Bieber's "Peaches," falling one spot after peaking at #2 two weeks ago. Both songs had poor feedback from listeners. (Apparently, Ariana, people aren't taking too kindly to the weird lowercase letters stuff.) "POV" ranks #17 in callout, with 22.4% of listeners reacting negatively to the song and 17.5% saying they're tired of hearing it on the radio. "Peaches" isn't looking peachy as far as consumer feedback is concerned, either. The single ranks #24 with 29.1% of radio listeners disliking the song. (Nearly three in 10! Yikes!) 18% of listeners indicated they were tired of hearing Bieber's song. Sounds like Ariana and Justin can't fall fast enough.
#7 will be another song from Olivia Rodrigo called "Deja Vu," which she unfortunately wants people to type without proper capital letters. I don't understand why artists feel the need to do this. It's just common sense to capitalize proper nouns. Behind her will be the rap song "Best Friend," by our familiar friend Doja Cat and another rapper who calls herself "Saweetie." (Her real name is Diamonté Quiava Valentin Harper.) "Best Friend" has reached its maximum rotation and is now losing spins. #8 will be as high as our sweetie gets. Research likely kept this song from advancing through the top 10. 26.3% of listeners reacted negatively to the record. Rounding out the top 10 will be two songs that are on the way down, The Weeknd's "Save Your Tears" (Why can't he just call himself The Weekend?) and The Kid Laroi's "Without You" at #9 and #10, respectively. "Save Your Tears" reached #1 a few weeks ago, and "Without You" peaked at #3 this June.
The Billboard Mainstream Top 40 National Airplay Chart's top 10 should be as follows:
1) "Kiss Me More" - Doja Cat
2) "Montero/Call Me By Your Name" - Lil Nas X
3) "Levitating" - Dua Lipa
4) "Good 4 U" - Olivia Rodrigo
5) "POV" - Ariana Grande
6) "Peaches" - Justin Bieber
7) "Deja Vu" - Olivia Rodrigo
8) "Best Friend" - Saweetie
9) "Save Your Tears" - The Weeknd
10) "Without You" - The Kid Laroi
Country
Chris Young is sure to take the top spot with "Famous Friends," which should be renamed "Famous Fiends" because he and his buddy Kane Brown have produced an awful song. It's simply not catchy or memorable in any way, shape, or form. The lyrics are trite. This is just not a pleasant song at all. #2 should be the former #1 song "Forever After All" by Luke Combs, who is somehow hugely popular among country radio listeners. Cole Swindell and Jason Aldean will advance to #s 3 and 4 with "Single Saturday Night" and "Blame It on You," respectively. Dierks' Bentley's #2-peaking "Gone" will fall to #5 as radio stations begin to take the record out of power rotation. Right behind him will be C-lister Jordan Davis with "Almost Maybes," which has reached maximum rotation at radio this week and will peak at #6. #7 should be Chase Rice's hot single "Drinkin' Beer. Talkin' God. Amen." which is blowing up the charts due to great feedback from listeners among a sea of dull, uninteresting records. Miranda Lambert will spend a second week without a bullet (losing airplay), falling back to #8 with "Settling Down." A low rate of positive reactions from radio listeners has kept many radio stations from putting Miranda's slow-climbing single into higher rotation. She's likely peaked at #7 and may start falling hard next week. Dan + Shay's "Glad You Exist," which sounds great during the 30-second elevator ride, will check in at #9. Justin Moore's equally mundane "We Didn't Have Much" will finish off the top 10. The top 10 should be as follows:
1) "Famous Friends" - Chris Young
2) "Forever After All" - Luke Combs
3) "Single Saturday Night - Cole Swindell
4) "Blame It on You" - Jason Aldean
5) "Gone" - Dierks Bentley
6) "Almost Maybes" - Jordan Davis
7) "Drinkin' Beer. Talkin' God. Amen."
8) "Settling Down" - Miranda Lambert
9) "Glad You Exist" - Dan + Shay
10) "We Didn't Have Much" - Justin Moore
